Commemoration of the One-Year Activities of the Homa Foundation

On 5th of Hamal 1401 AH, a ceremony was held in Kabul to commemorate the one-year activities of the Homa Foundation, hosted by Mr. Nemat Qasemi, founder of the Nemat Qasemi Foundation. During this event, the leadership of the Homa Foundation, which had been held over the past year by Dr. Mohammadjan Sotuda, was officially handed over to Mr. Ustad Bonyad Omid and Ms. Aqila Aslamyar.

Speech excerpt by Dr. Mohammad Jan Sotuda (former head of the Homa Foundation) on the occasion of the end of his term

Peace and greetings to the proud members of the Homa Foundation, dear companions, friends, and all those who have collaborated with this foundation and are present in this warm and friendly gathering today. I hope we begin the new year with renewed energy and greater achievements. I would also like to thank our respected brother, Mr. Nemat Qasemi (the great supporter of education), who is hosting this distinguished gathering, and on his behalf, I warmly welcome you all.

More than a year has passed since the establishment of the Almitoo People’s Solidarity Foundation (Homa Foundation). During this time, it became a spark of hope for a brighter future and a source of unity and solidarity among our people. The volunteer members of this foundation, with sincerity, transparency, and selfless effort, were able to gain the trust of people both inside and outside the country. At a time when our country needs unity more than ever, the continuation of this institution and the expansion of its humanitarian services has become even more important.

Although this foundation was initially formed by a small group of educated and aware youth, it quickly expanded, and people from various walks of life became direct or indirect supporters, both financially and morally. The foundation remained committed to its core principles, including avoiding political, party, ethnic, or other socially constructed divisions. Its members worked purely with charitable intentions and did not seek any personal benefit. In addition to dedicating their time, they even covered operational costs from their own resources. What has made this foundation strong and trustworthy is financial transparency, honesty in action, and compassion toward people.

Although the foundation faced various challenges and criticism during the past year, these were used as opportunities for improvement. The members hold no resentment toward anyone and instead welcome constructive engagement. The doors of the Homa Foundation remain open to all people of Almitoo who have good intentions.

To ensure accountability and transparency, the foundation prepared a detailed annual financial report in six sections and an introduction, totaling 149 pages, which was previously published.

As the outgoing head of the Homa Foundation, I would now briefly draw your attention to the foundation’s one-year activities

During the past year, the Homa Foundation implemented two major programs and several smaller projects, collecting and spending a total of over 3,070,000 Afghanis for public welfare. These include:

  • Construction of six additional classrooms for Almitoo Boys’ School, including metal roofing and full office equipment;
  • Assistance to needy families in Almitoo and Kabul through the “Homa Relief Fund,” covering 230 families;
  • Completion of metal roofing for Shahyar Sultan Girls’ School, collection of books and stationery for establishing a library, organization of Book and Pen Festival in Kabul, a Women’s Health Promotion program in Kabul, and coordination of office supplies donated by Abdullah Jaghori and his colleagues for Almitoo schools; as well as donation of timber for Siah Qol School roofing.

On behalf of the Homa Foundation, I would like to sincerely thank all financial and moral supporters inside and outside the country who placed their trust in us. I am especially grateful to Dr. Esmatullah Rasouli, who personally covered the cost of building two classrooms amounting to 284,000 Afghanis. I also thank Mr. Nemat Qasemi (the great supporter of education), who made several significant donations to the Homa Relief Fund.

My sincere appreciation goes to our Almitoo representative, Mr. Ustad Rahmatullah Rahyab, who worked tirelessly as a strong pillar of the foundation, as well as to the respected teachers of Almitoo schools, especially the boys’ school, who actively supported us in collecting timber and donations locally.

I also extend heartfelt thanks to the representatives of the people of Almitoo, the Education Council, and the Health Council for their strong support, as well as to our dear brother Mr. Hussain Ali Omid Hamraz, who, despite being in exile in Iran, collected and sent stationery packages for Almitoo schools.

I am proud to have served my people and worked alongside the members of the Homa Foundation over the past year. If I have fallen short or caused any disappointments, I sincerely apologize. I wish continued success and strength for the Homa Foundation. From this point onward, I remain an active member alongside the foundation, and I congratulate Mr. Ustad Bonyad Omid and Ms. Aqila Aslamyar on their new responsibilities.
